About Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band
Kirkby Lonsdale Brass Band is one of the oldest bands in the country. Our earliest record is from 1821 when the band played for the coronation celebrations of King George IV.
They led the procession for the coronation celebrations of Queen Victoria in 1838 and escorted Queen Adelaide, widow of William IV into the town on her visit in 1840.
In 1936 they played for the, then, Prince of Wales on his visit to Kirkby Lonsdale and on the occasion of Prince Charles’s visit in 1993.
The band is very active in the town and plays for Good Friday service, Remembrance Day, concerts, weddings, local galas and has been very active in contesting, being North of England Champions 4th Section in 1995 and runners-up in 2002, 3rd in 2007, and 2nd in 2008, qualifying again for the Finals.
In March 2009 they won the North of England Regional Championship again and were promoted to Section 3 they were runners up at Darlington again in the North of England Regionals 2012 and took part in the National Finals in Cheltenham however the band is presently unregistered.
Since 1988 the band has organised an open air contest in the Market Square which attracts bands from across the north of England - see KLBB Contest .
The band has made visits to Belgium and to Sweden and has also hosted bands from these countries too.
The band is self supporting. Funds are raised from engagements, fund raising events and from our Patrons Fund. The band appreciates the excellent support from Patrons, townspeople and local businesses.
We are a friendly band and run beginners classes on request. We have a wide range of players and are always pleased to welcome new members whether new or experienced players.
We welcome anyone to come and play or watch and listen to our rehearsals at Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club, Mondays 7:30 - 9:30.
